Origins: These Garden Stuff articles first appeared in The Eastbourne Herald (Lower Hutt, New Zealand) as a contributed monthly column. Now, with permission and some editing, I reproduce them here. The first article was published in November 2016 so, as I launch this new page in February 2022, there are over 50 of them.
Size and style: The strict space limitation of the original column (<400 words) meant the wording had to be pretty terse and the content sometimes a bit incomplete. With more space here, I've tried to correct the latter but have persisted with the former.
Aims: The Garden Stuff articles cover a very wide range of topics - much wider than the average newspaper garden column. I have no commercial interest in these articles but instead wish to share with you a love for science and for plants. Also, for a way of living that's more in tune with nature and more sustainable. Opinion: You, the reader, may not always agree with me. That's fine. I'm happy to engage in brief email discussion with you, should you feel I should become better educated...
Structure: The articles appear in serial-number order, each with a short title. The number of articles will grow month by month - until either I give up or The Eastbourne Herald ceases to indulge me. To view an article click on one of the links (#x) below. Sandy Lang slang@xtra.co.nz
